The Metazoan Cell Cycle Laboratory (led by Dr Yuu Kimata) is recruiting one postdoctoral scientist at the School of Life Science and Technology (SLST) at ShanghaiTech University.
The Kimata lab is aiming to elucidate the metazoan-specific mechanisms through cell proliferation and growth are spatiotemporally coordinated with the intra/intercellular events required for the development and the physiology of multicellular organisms. Kimata’s lab combines in vivo analysis using Drosophila and mammalian cells and tissues, with advanced cell/tissue imaging, biochemistry and multi-OMICs techniques, and has been collaborating with various international scientists, including David Glover (University of Cambridge), Hiroyuki Yamano (UCL), Jens Januschke (University of Dundee) and Renata Basto (Curie Institute), to publish numerous papers in high-impact journals, such as Nature Cell Biology, Developmental Biology and Molecular Cell. Kimata’s lab is currently looking for a talented, highly motivated postdoctoral researcher who is interested to study multifaceted functions of cell cycle regulator proteins in mammalian cell and tissue culture. Specific projects will be assigned through discussions according to the skills and experience of the candidate and the timeline of available projects.
A successful candidate is expected to have strong skills in mammalian (human) cell culture and a good track record in biomedical research. Having knowledge in the cell cycle or cancer is highly advantageous. In addition, he/she is expected to possess good inter-personal, organisational and time management skills. Since the role likely involves supervising graduate students with Dr Kimata, having experience in supervision is also helpful. As daily communications in the lab will be in English, reasonable English proficiency is mandatory. A self-driven, independent individual with a passion for science, a cooperative attitude and open mindset will best fit to the lab.
The research will be based at ShanghaiTech University, situated in the heart of Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in the Pudong District in the highly international city of Shanghai in China. The initial term of this position is 24 months but it can be extended to over 4 years. The advertised position is Postdoctoral Research Associate but it can be promoted to Research Associate Professor based on his/her experience and competence.

1. To design the course of research projects under the guidance of Dr Kimata.
2. To design experiments and conduct them accurately and reproducibly.
3. To analyse and interpret data objectively and critically.
4. To report and discuss results with Dr Kimata and other lab members.
5. To present the work at internal and external seminars and at national and international scientific conferences.
6. To contribute to the preparation of publications and applications for funding.
7. To assist Dr Kimata with supervision of students and/or junior research staff working in support of the projects.
8. To cooperate with Dr Kimata and lab members in organising lab regents and equipment and in maintaining high standard of the lab space.

Education & qualifications：
A PhD or an equivalent degree in biomedical science.
Scientific knowledge and skills (essential)：
• High skills in mammalian (human) cell culture
• Experience in basic molecular and cell biological experiments, e.g., DNA cloning, western blotting and immunoprecipitation, etc.
• Experience in light microscopy and quantitative image analysis.
• Basic knowledge in molecular and cell biology, genetics, developmental biology, bioinformatics and statistics
• Logical and critical thinking
• Proficiency in academic written and spoken English to discuss, write and present research-related subjects
Specialised knowledge & skills (desirable)：
• Knowledge on cell cycle research and/or cancer biology.
• Experience in culturing mammalian tissues/organoids.
• Experience in genome editing, protein biochemistry (protein purification and analysis, etc.), bioinformatics/computational biology, and advanced microscopic techniques (super-resolution microscopy, EM, etc.)
Interpersonal & communication skills (essential)：
• Ability to communicate with lab members and other researchers in English
• Ability to cooperate with and support colleagues and to maintain cohesive and collaborative relationships
Relevant experience & skills (desirable)：
• Proficiency in Chinese
• Publication in the scientific literature
• Experience in presenting at international conferences
• Experience in supervising students or junior colleagues
• Experience in communicating and collaborating with scientists in relevant or different disciplines

The annual salary will be decided based on the University salary scale and the experience and qualification of the candidate .
