Position Summary

The Hainan University-Arizona State University International Tourism College (HAITC) invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, assistant/associate professor and/or lecturer in public administration and policy. This individual will serve as a core faculty member for its NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Public Service and Public Policy (PSPP) undergraduate program, that are jointly offered by Hainan University (HNU) and Arizona State University (ASU). The successful applicant will be expected to teach core courses as well as other courses based on applicants’ expertise that are consistent with the curriculum of both MPA and PSPP programs. Applicants should show a strong record of or potential for research productivity and contribute to graduate and undergraduate advising, teaching and mentoring that support diverse and global practices in HAITC.

Organization Summary

The HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College (HAITC) of HNU was established in 2017, and is the first domestic Sino-foreign cooperative tourism institution approved by the Ministry of Education in China. HAITC takes "thinking innovation, sharing wisdom, pursuing excellence, and leading the future" as its development concept, and intends to become "a comprehensive talent training base and international tourism research platform and think tank with extensive influence both at home and abroad". HAITC offers master and undergraduate programs as dual HNU-ASU degree and single ASU degree. Currently, there are three undergraduate majors (Hotel Management (Tourism Development and Management: TDM), Human Geography and Urban-Rural Planning (Parks and Recreation Management: PRM), and Public Administration (Public Service and Public Policy: PSPP)) and two master’s programs (Master of Public Administration: MPA and Master of Community Resources and Development - Tourism Management: CRD-TM) taught in English.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in public administration, public policy, public management, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required by the start of employment. Ability to work in a culturally diverse and inclusive environment should be required.

Preferred Qualifications

We seek faculty members who can teach MPA and PSPP core courses as well as other courses in their specialized fields. The area of expertise is open, but applicants with research excellence in emergency management will be preferred.

Location of HAITC

The main campus of Hainan University is located in Haikou, the capital city of Hainan province, and the core city for the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP). HAITC is expected to relocate to its new global campus, which is under construction in Mission Hills comprehensive tourism resort, Haikou, Hainan. Hainan is a sub-tropical and tropical international tourism island with beautiful beaches. Hainan is aimed to building into the largest free trade port and special economic zone in China.
